Market Update for February 2017
English Rhubarb – From the Rhubarb triangle up in Yorkshire. The season is now in full swing but supplies of the best quality stems are still fairly high in price. Second grade is sometimes available at a cheaper price, supplied only by the box, which is fine for fruit crumbles etc. Please specify second grade when you place your order.
English Cox Apples – A recommended fruit for February, still readily available at a fair price.
English Brussel Tops – Still going strong and highly recommended but the season is drawing to a close, please take advantage of this superb green vegetable.
English Purple Sprouting Broccoli – Great quality, price and the availability seems stable.
English Root Vegetables – Swede, Jerusalem Artichokes, Celeriac, Parsnips, Turnips & Beetroot – Still great quality and value. These should stay on your menu for the rest of this month, right through to March. Good hearty English produce.
English Cavolo Nero/Black Cabbage – Still going strong, highly recommended for February.
Brassicas – Cauliflower, Romanesco & Broccoli – Outstanding quality on these at the moment, the price is also very reasonable too!
English January King Cabbages – Available upon request for a lovely seasonal English cabbage. Season is now drawing to a close, please specify when placing your order.
Blood Oranges – From Sicily, still a must for this month’s menu, the price is down and the quality is at its very best, super sweet and they cut a beautiful ruby red. This fruit loves the cold weather, take advantage while they are in season.
Turkish Quinces – Still superb quality and price, take advantage as the season is now drawing rapidly to a close!
English Curly Kale – A great super green! Good quality and value.
Hispi Cabbage – From Portugal, super sweet, great quality and reasonably priced.
Edible Flowers – Beautiful little mixed colour fresh cut viola flowers available direct from our grower in Norfolk, great for garnish and decoration.
English Micro Herbs – We stock a wide range from our grower in Norfolk. You can view their full range which is available to us at www.nurturedinnorfolk.co.uk. If you require any unusual micro herbs 24hrs pre-order is advised.
English Ramsons/Wild Garlic – These will be ready for picking very soon and we will notify you as soon as they are available, hopefully the first week of March, subject to the weather.
Courgettes/Aubergines – Price has now eased back considerably, feel free to introduce these back into your menus.
There is a nice selection of Italian produce currently available on the market including; Monks Beard, Radicchio di Castelfranco, Cima Di Rapa, Puntarelle, Treviso, Tardivo etc. Please contact us for more information. 24hrs notice is required at least as there is only one Italian delivery a week at the moment which is Wednesday evening for delivery to you on Thursday morning.
Romaine, Little Gem, Iceberg, Spinach – Price remains high due to the severe weather in Southern Europe but seems to have reached a plateau, prices are gradually coming down – we will keep you posted.
Cherry Vine Tomatoes – Price is predicted to remain high this month due to a disease which has severely affected the crop – we will keep you posted.
Fennel – Price is high, we recommended using this sparingly for the coming weeks.
French Heirloom Tomatoes – Supplies are starting to slow down now.
Hass Avocados - Price is remaining very high for the best quality ready to eat.
