Market Update for May 2018
English Asparagus – From Norfolk, now in full swing and should be included on all menus at this time of the year. Take advantage while it’s available!
Fresh Peas/Broad Beans - Good availability and price, another great seasonal addition. The English season shouldn’t be too far away now.
English Salad – From our grower in Mr Betts in Kent, we have the Baby Gem and Romaine in stock now, Iceberg should follow shortly.
English Cucumbers – Season has now started, great yield, quality and price!
English Outdoor Rhubarb - Excellent quality and availability at the moment. With its traditional tart English flavour, it’s a must have for the coming weeks, take advantage while it’s here.
English Jersey Ware/Royals – Available now and a good seasonal addition to the menu. Price has decreased now, sold only by a 10kg sack.
English Watercress – From the Chalke Valley, still a good supply coming in, subject to the weather.
English Spring Onions – We are now onto English, much better quality and value.
Italian Bunched Carrots/Beets – Still excellent quality and reasonably priced.
Spring Cabbage – We have now made the switch from Portuguese Hispi to English Spring Cabbages.
English Cavolo Nero – This is still available at request by case or kilo.
Apricots - Season is just getting underway now, still a little expensive but the price should come down over the coming weeks.
Peaches & Nectarines – Spanish season just starting, flat peaches should also be arriving soon.
Fresh Cherries – They are available now but are still very pricey however.
English Strawberries/Raspberries – Should be starting this week or next, the best berries of the year! The price will be high at first but will ease as the season progresses.
Limes – Have been looking really good recently, dark green and great for garnish, we also have cheaper grades available for juicing.
English Ramsons/Wild Garlic - The season is now finished, please do not order.
Romanesco – Season has now finished. Please take off our menus.
English Purple Sprouting Broccoli- Season is now rapidly drawing to a close. Please take off your menus.
Avocados – Due to ridiculous demands, avocados are being shipped before the ripening process which means it’s taking longer for them to be ready to eat. Please bear with us we’re doing our best to source the right quality fruits.
Spanish Onions – We are holding out at present, we have moved to cold stored Spanish which are a better quality. Awaiting Chilean prices to drop.
Capsicums – Price is very high, Spanish season is now finishing which means Dutch will be our only option for the time being.
Melons – The Spanish season is coming to an end and we’re waiting on Brazilian to begin which means all varieties are currently in very short supply which is causing the price to rise.
Spanish Oranges – Season is set to come to an end soon, Moroccan will start shortly.
English Loose Kale – Season has now finished, we’re currently working pre-packed 250g bags.
English Carrots – Due to the severe weather we’ve has this year, English is in very short supply which is causing the price to rise.
Black Radish – Best to avoid at the moment, the French season has now finished.
