Market Update - January 2020

Updated: Mar 3

Positives...

Blood Oranges – Have just started to come through, eat lovely and the color will only get darker as the season gets underway. Our personal favourite for January, highly recommended.

Seville Oranges – These are available at request for marmalade although the price is still quite high.

English Forced Rhubarb – Just getting underway now although very expensive.

English Comice & Conference Pears - Lovely and juicy, these are really nice at the moment.

Cavolo Nero - Still great quality and availability on these, lovely seasonal greens worth keeping on the menu.

Portuguese Hispi Cabbage - Beautiful sweet cabbages, another great green to accompany any hearty winter roasts.

Romanesco Cauliflowers - Excellent quality and availability on these at the moment, still worth picking up.

Tenderstem Broccoli - Still in good supply at the moment although the price has remained at the top end.

English Sprouts & Brussels Tops – Still available and going strong past Christmas.

Root Vegetables - Turnip, Swede, Celeriac, Beetroot, Jerusalem Artichokes etc. Great quality and value, worth keeping on the menu this time of year.

Navel Oranges – From Spain, the flavour on our large and juicing oranges is outstanding at the moment.

Spanish Strawberries – Have just started up, the price and quality should improve over the coming weeks.

Wild Mushrooms - Giroles, Chanterelles, Trompette etc. We still have a good assortment available at the moment although are coming in quite expensive. 24hrs pre-order is preferred please contact us for up to date prices.

Winter Salads –Trevisse, Tardivo, Castel Franco – Available at request although supplies can often be sporadic.

Negatives...

Jumbo Chipping Potatoes – Price is up slightly for this coming week.

Limes – Price is set to rise, as always, we will do our best to keep our prices below the market trend.

Curly Kale – Availability on the loose 5kg boxes is tightening up, we may have to move back onto pre-packed 2.5kg boxes soon.

Capsicums – Price is also up on most of Dutch produce at the moment including Red, Yellow & Green peppers.

Courgettes – Same as above, price is high currently but for the best quality.

Heirloom Tomatoes – Coming in very expensive at the moment.

Leafy Clementine’s – Finishing shortly, we will switch to Moroccan Nardacots.

Yellow Courgettes – The price is sky-high at the moment; we would avoid these.
